About

Access to the young people we support is precious and needs to be handled with care and sensitivity. That is how Mary’s began its Evidence Series. Mary’s research allows the voices of our young people and the information about what works to improve their lives to be known. Mary’s protects our young people and their information, and will only involve the young people in research if we believe it is not of detriment to them.

Mary’s is really proud to have four studies underway:

Adverse Childhood Events Cohort: 195 individuals retrospective qualitiative interviews establishing their experiences and self-determined understanding of the relationship between their experiences and personal outcomes.

Serious Youth Violence Core Cohort Study: A two phase study of young people meeting Mary’s Core Cohort Criteria of being excluded from school, engaged in the criminal justice system, or vulnerable. The study looks at before and after Mary’s Core Cohort intervention and assesses aggression, self-esteem and mental wellbeing. The cohorts have been running since 2019.

Serious Youth Violence Workforce Professional Support Needs: This two phase study explores the needs of the Serious Youth Violence workforce for professional support. This is for both primary and secondary trauma exposure and seeks culturally appropriate and workforce-led ways to meet professional needs.

You Can Mental Health Study: This is an annual study analysing the outcomes of the self-rated resilience to change of young people who have completed Mary’s You Can program.

Reports and interim reports will be published to this website. Join our mailing list to be notified of publications. Email info@maryscharity.org to sign up.
