Break the cycle. Bin the knife.

At Mary's Charity, our work centers on keeping young people safe, building their emotional skills, and equipping them with essential life skills for a positive future. We focus on immediate safety through efforts like removing weapons from situations, mediating between groups, hospital visits, de-escalation strategies, and providing prison support.

To foster emotional resilience, we help young people develop healthy attachments, coping mechanisms, and a better understanding of trauma, which reduces their risk to themselves and others, raises self-esteem, and lowers the likelihood of violence.

Finally, through our education and life skills programs, we provide school-based and behavioral support, improve communication and self-management, and offer employment assistance to help them become “learning-ready” and prepared for future success.

Break the cycle. Bin the knife.

At Mary’s Charity, we are dedicated to creating safer communities and combating knife crime in our city. Our latest initiative the installation of on-site knife bins is a crucial step towards achieving these goals. By providing accessible and secure locations for knife disposal, we aim to reduce youth violence and promote a safer environment for all.

Mary’s charity has taken a significant step forward by installing three additional knife bins across the borough of Camden. These bins are essential in our efforts to reduce violence safely and with minimal risk to our team. We are dedicated to fostering emotional and social development, offering practical assistance, and providing care to young people. By supporting them in finding alternatives to violence and unlocking their potential, we contribute to a safer community. These knife bins are a vital component of our strategy, ensuring a practical and secure way to diminish violence.

The presence of knife bins allows us to promptly collect and secure potentially dangerous weapons, creating a safer environment for everyone. The immediate removal of knives from circulation can prevent potential tragedies and reduce the risk of violence. Every knife deposited in one of our bins is one less weapon that could potentially cause harm. This real-time impact is a crucial aspect of our strategy, as it provides an immediate solution to a pressing problem.

Beyond providing knife bins, Mary’s Charity is committed to supporting young people involved in or at risk of serious youth violence through our Core Cohort Support program. This program offers practical violence reduction strategies, as well as emotional and social support.

Our Core Cohort Support program goes beyond immediate intervention. We offer long-term support aimed at empowering young individuals to make positive life choices. This includes mentoring, educational support, career guidance, and mental health services. By addressing the underlying issues that lead to youth violence, we can make a lasting impact on the lives of young people and the broader community.

Education is a powerful tool in the fight against knife crime. Through workshops and school programs, we educate young people about the dangers of knife crime and the importance of making safe choices. Knowledge is power, and by equipping young people with the right information, we can prevent many from ever picking up a knife in the first place.

Why the Knife Bin Matters

Immediate Accessibility

Having a knife bin on-site ensures that our staff team’s health and safety are prioritised. Vulnerable individuals in our community can easily and safely dispose of knives that are not wanted. This accessibility reduces the likelihood of knives being passed on and used in act of violence.

Real-Time Impact

Our on-site knife bin allows us to collect and secure potentially dangerous weapons promptly. This immediate action contributes to a safer environment for everyone in the vicinity.

Community Involvement

By installing these bins on-site, we encourage active participation from community members in our mission to combat knife crime. It promotes a sense of ownership and responsibility within the community, fostering a united front against violence.

Core Cohort Support

Alongside our knife bin, we provide practical violence reduction, emotional and social support to young people involved or at risk of Serious Youth Violence through Mary’s Core Cohort Support program. This includes support to amnesty weapons. Together, we can work towards a more informed and safer society.
